Microsoft Office 365
Case Study - The Hale Group
iTechPro completes cloud
migration to Office 365 (from SBS 2003) for The Hale Group,
Danvers, MA.
The
project included the following benefits and technical
enhancements:
Office
Professional Plus 2010
iTechPro upgraded all users to Office 2010 Pro – Word,
Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Publisher, One Note, Access and
more.
Exchange
2010 Email
iTechPro replicated all user
email addresses, aliases and distribution groups from the
on-site Exchange server to the cloud Exchange server. iTechPro migrated all
email, contact, task and calendar data from the on-site
Exchange Server to the cloud Exchange Server. Email is accessible through
Outlook 2010, the Outlook Web App or most mobile devices.
SharePoint 2010
iTechPro customized the interface for the specific needs of
The Hale Group. Office 365 also allows use of Web App
versions of Word, Excel, Power Point, and One Note within
SharePoint for when you may need to access SharePoint files
on a computer without
Office installed.
Lync 2010
Lync provides The Hale Group
with enhanced
communication and collaboration capabilities such as instant
messaging, voice calling, video conferencing and desktop
sharing.
File
Migration Services
iTechPro migrated 25GB of data
while preserving folder structure, meta data (created by,
modified date, etc.) and user permissions.
Database
Migration Service
iTechPro transitioned a legacy
Filemaker 5 client database with over 5000 records to
SharePoint. As a result, the database was made available to
all users rather than a select few. This eliminated the need
for those without database access to contact someone with
database access to get the information they required. In
addition, Filemaker 5 is not compatible with Windows 7 and
thus had to be run in virtual XP mode on Windows 7 (which
was slow). By moving this data to the cloud, Filemaker 5 and
virtual XP mode are now retired.
Mobile
Devices
iPhones, iPads, Android devices
and one legacy Windows Mobile phone were configured for
Exchange email and mobile SharePoint access.
VPN
Eliminated – By moving
to Office 365, mobile users will no longer have to rely on a
VPN connection to access email and files. This solved a rare
but still annoying problem where mobile users would have
difficulty connecting when using Wi-Fi in certain hotels and
airports due to network limitations at these locations.
Training
– iTechPro provided basic training for all users on the new
Office 365 Cloud system.
Ongoing
Support – iTechPro will
provide support and administration of the cloud service as
well as client computer and mobile device maintenance and
support going forward.
